Once Upon A Christmas by Christy Newton #Review #TeaserTuesday

Today I’m happy to feature author Christy Newton on my blog. Her new book, Once Upon A Christmas, is available now. I must say, I loved this novella. But, before I get into that, let me share info about the book.

Theia North never believed in writer’s block until after her first romance novel was on the NYT Best Sellers List. Pressure mounted and she couldn’t seem to find the words for her next book. On a deadline, and with her sister’s encouragement, Theia rents out a cabin in Montana for solitude and inspiration.

Elliot Asher has no idea Theia’s an author when he sees her wandering around the snowy woods talking to herself. Curious he follows the beautiful, but quite possibly insane woman without being seen. Her words of romance and love strike something deep inside his shielded heart.

Fascinated with her, Elliot intends to find out if the woman is truly mad by taking on the role of her imaginary man. When Theia meets the very real and very alive hero from inside her head, she doesn’t know whether to embrace the phenomenon or check herself into therapy.

It will be a Christmas that neither will ever forget.

Theia’s heart thumped inside her chest. It was as if Rocco had come to life. As if her story was coming to life. Snow continued to flutter around them. This had to be a dream. Being an author she had an overactive imagination and some very realistic dreams. She reached out and lightly touched the back of his coat. The fabric even felt real. Maybe it was.

Ecstatic, she followed Elliot back out of the woods. The man couldn’t have heard her fleshing out her characters. He would have said something. Right? She could explain herself, but if he hadn’t heard her, why bring attention to it and ruin her magical moment of getting to live part of her story. Like Caroline, Theia was smitten with a man she barely knew.

I give ‘Once Upon A Christmas’ five stars!

The author’s descriptive words brought the book to life and I could clearly picture each scene as if I was watching a movie. The moments when the hero watched the heroine ‘flesh out’ her characters were hilarious. This book had me longing for snow and hot chocolate. If you’re a fan of romance and holiday reads this is definitely the story for you.

Hello Again by Susanne Matthews #TeaserTuesday #Paranormal

Can she lift the curse and find love again?

For Charley Winters love means loss and pain. She’s spent the last five years struggling with her grief. Existing, not living. Drawn to Saskatchewan, she travels west take the job she’s always wanted. But life gets complicated when she’s rescued from a vicious tornado by her dead husband’s double, a man who makes her feel things she hasn’t in years. Add to that a native myth, a shaman, a green-eyed wolf, and her husband’s ghost … Can she lift a millennia old curse and find joy and love again?

Once there was a Sioux maiden whose father had given her as wife to a cruel medicine man, one who practiced witchcraft and allied himself with the evil spirits. The husband constantly found fault with his young wife and beat her. Unable to remain with her husband for fear his next beating would kill her, she grabbed a small bundle of food and ran away from her home. The tribe searched for her for many days, but when they could find no sign of her, they eventually accepted that she was dead.
But the woman wasn’t dead. She wandered the prairie for many days and nights until, exhausted, without food or water, she sat and prayed for the Great Spirit to come for her. Knowing what an evil man her husband was, the Great Spirit took pity on her and sent a man to rescue her, but he was not really a man. He was the chief of the wolves, a shapeshifter, whose rare red coloring distinguished him from the other wolves. The chief fell in love with her and took her back to his village where she was amazed to find what she was sure were all the wolves and coyotes of the world.
For a year, she stayed with him in his village, falling more and more deeply in love with him, until she refused to consider ever leaving him. In exchange for her love, the chief of the wolves gifted her with the ability to talk to the wolves and other animals. The wolves treated her well, fetching whatever she needed to survive from the camp of men—flint for fire, a pot to boil her buffalo meat, a knife to cut it, and skins to make her clothes.
One night, her lover came to her tepee and he was greatly distressed. Her people were on the move, going on a great buffalo hunt, and they were headed this way. Unless she faced them and told them who she was, her people would kill all the wolves who’d cared for her, and because of an evil enchantment, he was powerless to protect the wolves whom he loved as much as he did her. He had to leave to find the source of the evil spell to protect those entrusted to him, but he would return for her as soon as he could.
The woman was sad, but knew she carried a secret within her—twins, powerful in good magic, who would be their father’s legacy. The next day, she saw the long line of people coming toward the wolf camp and went out to greet them as her lover had told her to, surrounded by the wolves who’d refused to leave her. Leading her people were her husband and her father who recognized her. Agreeing to go back to her village, she refused to go back as her husband’s wife and insisted they build her a tepee of her own where she lived with the wolves until the time came and she gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl, both with their father’s unusual coloring and eyes as green as the prairie grass.
When the medicine man saw the children, he was enraged and cursed his wife and her lover, vowing neither one would ever be happy. Using his evil magic, he slew the wolf guardians and stole the twins away, selling them to the tribe’s enemies as slaves—the girl to one, the boy to another. In his jealousy, he sold his soul to wakhášica, an evil spirit, who trapped the chief of the wolves in his wolf form.
Unable to defend himself, the chief of the wolves fell prey to the evil medicine man’s spear. The medicine man skinned the wolf and presented the pelt to his wife’s father as a trophy, asking the man to intercede to force his wife to come back to him.
Believing her wolf lover would return to her and help her find her lost children, the woman refused her father’s pleas to go back to her husband. Day and night, she prayed to the Great Spirit and begged her lover to come back for her as he’d promised, but he didn’t come. In her grief and loneliness, she went to see her father. When she entered his tepee, the first thing she saw was her lover’s pelt. Distraught, she fled the tribe, wailing and lamenting the loss of her lover and her children, and wandered the prairie in search of his spirit.
Pitying her, the Great Spirit turned her into a wolf and reunited her with the pack she’d lived with, and there she stayed for the rest of her days, mourning with them.
Often at night, especially when the full moon silvers the land, the wind carries the lonely howls of the lovers searching for one another, still separated by the medicine man’s evil curse.

The Fencing Master’s Daughter by Giselle Marks #TeaserTuesday #AuthorSpotlight

Happy Tuesday!
Today I’m sharing a teaser from Giselle Marks’ novel, The Fencing Master’s Daughter. Enjoy!

Edward, Earl of Chalcombe, walking home, is attacked. He attempts to defend himself but is bludgeoned to the ground. Death seems inevitable when a beautiful young lady and her servant rescue him. Refusing any reward they leave no address, But Edward, fascinated by both Madelaine’s beauty and swordsmanship, intends to pursue the acquaintance. Edward seeks his rescuers and the culprits who wish to terminate his life. He offers the elusive Madelaine marriage but she repeatedly declines. Her father accepts an invitation to visit his estate with her, over Christmas as he takes a liking to Edward. As Edward pursues Madelaine, the attempts on his life continue. The mystery intertwines as their romance progresses and Madelaine eventually reveals the secret making her refuse to marry him.

After the attempts upon Edward’s life several of his staff had been offered bribes for information about his movements. Both a stable lad and a maid reported being offered half guineas, but they had given a prompt refusal and withdrawn from the contact. The third attempt at bribery occurred when two of Edward’s footmen were having a heavy wet in the public room of the Running Horse in Davies Street.

Peter Firth and young John Pennywise had been allowed the evening off, as the earl and her ladyship were attending a select evening party in town and were not expected to return to the early hours. They were standing at the bar chewing the bacon together when a foreign sounding gentleman, dressed in black attempted to buy them a pint of beer.

John was considering accepting, but Peter remembered the warning and squeezed his shoulder. John and Peter politely said “No thank you, sir.”

The man tried again.

“Please let me buy you both a drink, lads, what’s your pleasure? Another pint of mine host’s best or maybe something stronger?” The stranger continued unctuously.

“No thank you, sir,” repeated Peter and drew John away to sit in the furthest corner of the tavern. They sat down and continued their conversation. “Do you think it’s true that the Corsican monster has to retreat from Russia?” John asked Peter as he had been reading the earl’s paper before he ironed it.

“Sounds like Bonaparte got badly whipped this time.”

“About time I think. Do you want another Peter? My round isn’t it?” As John went to get up, the stranger in black brought over two tankards of beer for them.

“Do you mind if I join you?” he said as he sat beside them. “I don’t know many people in London.”

John was a little embarrassed about the man’s intrusion. “Thank you for the beer,” he said and Peter echoed him.

“I’m only in town on some business, where do you work?” asked the stranger. Peter said nothing, but thought their footmen’s uniform with their master’s crest on their chest should have been a pretty good indicator.

“We work as footmen for the earl of Chalcombe,”John said proud of his position, and Peter kicked him under the table.

“Is he a good employer? I suppose you can always do with a few extra guineas,” he smoothly suggested.

“What would you want in return for these guineas?” Peter asked suspiciously.

“Only a little information…oof” the foreigner replied, but was cut short by Peter’s fist connecting with his gut.

“Try to make us spy on his lordship, will you, Take that!” Peter declared slightly late but he followed up with a flourishing left to the chin. Peter was a well-developed lad and the interloper went down hard. The man scrabbled back to his feet quickly, but shook his head as if his wits had gone begging.

John had also stood and both footmen were advancing menacingly towards their adversary.

“He’s the one Jenkins was warning us about. He tried to murder my lord!” Peter declared.

“Now boys, take it outside or I’ll have to call the watch on you,” interrupted mine host.

Peter reached for the man’s arm, grabbing it with a brawny fist, then his other hand connected this time with the man’s nose.

“Take it outside, I said,” repeated the innkeeper.

“We’re going, Stanley. John grab his other arm!”

The pair of footmen bundled him out of the saloon into the street. Hitting the chill air, John found he was a trifle disguised, but he rallied and his fists delivered a couple of heavy wallops to the man still held by his senior comrade. They may have lacked science, but it was bellows to mend with their victim. Both lads were a bit jug-bitten and were not completely thinking straight. They continued to drub the man, and his claret now had been drawn properly, as his nose was leaking blood profusely. The man in black tried to hit Peter back a couple of times, but was swaying on his feet. John contributed a few more of his own mashers, but he was not carrying his ale that well, as he staggered a little.

“Peter shouldn’t we take him back to Jenkins, for his lordship? He can call the runners after he’s had a
chance to talk to this one,” John staunchly said, enunciating his words one at a time.

He hoisted the battered foreigner from the gutter where he had fallen and Peter gripped the man’s other side as they dragged him back towards Grosvenor Square. But after a few halting steps, the man seemed to come to his senses. They swerved to allow another pedestrian to pass by, when he shrugged off their restraining hands and bolted down the street, the pair of inebriated footmen whooping and jeering at his heels.

He fled towards the centre of town, until out of breath with the footmen gaining upon him he managed to lose his pursuers by turning off from Oxford Street into Drury Lane, where he mingled with the crowd of theatre goers as they spilled out of the theatres.

The now sobering footmen gave a clear description of the inquisitive foreigner to the butler, Jenkins, as soon as they returned to Chalcombe House. They repeated their story to the earl, when he returned home. It was obvious to Edward his footmen had been approached by Stack’s erstwhile employer and whoever that gentleman might be he was very determined to find a way to do away with himself.

My Heart, My Gift by Corrissa James #TeaserTuesday #Review #Romance

Today, I’m sharing my review of My Heart, My Gift by Corrissa James.

This is a great holiday romance.

First of all, I loved the main character’s name, Serafina Anderson. Isn’t that cute? Though Sera came with baggage, she was a lovable character and easy to relate to. When she first met Andrew Clark, he had a chip on his shoulder. Soon that chip began to melt away and the two of them grew closer. Watching them fall in love was fun.

They both have issues to deal with, but they’ll learn that together, they can overcome anything. This is a fun, clean romance and I definitely recommend it.

Can the big city girl convince the small-town cowboy to give Christmas a second chance? Or will the secret she hides destroy any chance of a relationship between them?

When Serafina Anderson makes a mess of her first semester of college, she does what she knows best: avoids facing her parents. This time she runs away to spend her winter vacation at the ranch of her cousin, Trish. Her escapades also lead her right into the arms of Andrew Clark, the small town’s most notorious troublemaker. But Sera sees beyond Andrew’s crass nature and recognizes that the bad boy isn’t as bad as everyone makes him out to be.

Andrew Clark hates Christmas—at least he has since his parents died. He refuses to buy into the commercialism of the holiday and does his best to shove the hurt he feels down so deep inside him that no one will ever find it. So when Sera ignores his bad temper and rude remarks, he wonders if he’s finally found the angel who can rescue him from himself—until he discovers that she’s been lying to him all along.

Corrissa James offers this clean and inspirational love story to remind us that opening our hearts to others can be the greatest gift of all.

~Trim the Tree Hop/Giveaway~ #ChristmasConfusion

Trim the Tree Hop

Welcome to my stop on the Trim the tree Blog hop! I wanna start by screaming, Happy Holidays!!

In case you can’t tell, this is my favorite time of the year. Not only is this the time of year for gifts, great sales at stores and huge family dinners… it’s also a time to reflect on and be thankful for all the blessings you’ve received this year.

We get so caught up in worldly things that we forget what Christmas is all about. I’m just as guilty of this as the next person. During the holidays I try to sit down with my husband and really talk about and remember what Christmas really means. During that time my thoughts always travel back in time to when I was a young girl.

Back then my mother would let me and my nieces help her decorate the Christmas tree. My favorite part of decorating the tree, was adding the angel to the top. Years later I still have that angel we used to put on top of our Christmas tree. I keep it wrapped up because I don’t want to risk breaking it. It’s one of the few items I have left that reminds me of Christmas with my mother.

~New Release: Christmas Confusion~

In my Christmas release, Christmas Confusion, Bailey is a lot like me. Her mother has passed away also and she’s having a hard time dealing with the loss. This is Bailey’s first Christmas without her mother. This is also her first Christmas in her new apartment. All of this is making Christmas very depressing.

But her best friends and next door neighbors refuse to let her sink into despair. They help Bailey find her Christmas cheer.

Christmas Confusion is on sale for 0.99cent for the month of December. (You’re welcome!)

It’s a lighthearted Romantic Comedy full of chaos, confusion and a little bit of charm.
